When I started learning about the WordPress community through the WPCredits program, I discovered that there are different ways to contribute to an open-source project. At first, I thought that contributing would mainly involve programming or solving technical problems. However, I learned that people can also collaborate by sharing their knowledge, creativity, and other skills.
After exploring the available options, I decided to choose the WordPress Photos Team.
Photography has always been something I really enjoy. I like capturing landscapes, nature, cities, and interesting places, especially in Costa Rica. I am also interested in technology and drones, which allow me to explore photography from different perspectives and capture views that are not always possible from the ground.
For my contribution project, I decided to share some of my original photographs through the WordPress Photo Directory. My idea is to contribute images that other people can use freely in their websites, blogs, presentations, and creative projects.
One of the things I find most interesting about this project is that photographs can reach people from different countries. An image taken in Costa Rica could become part of a website created by someone on the other side of the world. I think that is a great example of how an open-source community works.
Through this experience, I want to learn more about how WordPress manages contributions, how the photo review process works, and why licenses such as CC0 are important when sharing creative content.
I also want to improve the way I select, organize, and describe my photographs so they can be useful to other people.
By the end of the program, I hope to have contributed a meaningful collection of photographs, gained more experience with the WordPress community, and learned new things that I can continue applying to photography and technology.
For me, this project is an opportunity to combine something I already enjoy doing with something completely new: contributing to an international open-source community.
